About JOHN MOESSNER and WOVEN STUDIOS

As a freelance film and music producer based out of Nashville, TN, I find beauty to be creatively woven in the fabric of the visuals and sounds that surround us.  My company, WOVEN STUDIOS, strives to capture these moments in a way that is both true and artful.  Energized by partnering with people in their creative endeavors, I relish the opportunity to bring vision to fruition, taking concept to reality.

The voice that wants to be heard must find a proper vehicle by which to project its message.  We live in a very loud culture surrounded by voices all vying for our attention.  Film/video is one of the most effective vehicles in our present age by which to sound one’s voice.  My goal is to give a clear, unique, and distinctive voice to the client; a voice that rises above the noise of our culture.  The following measures are taken in order to achieve this goal:  A) I listen to the client and really get a feel for their intent, message, or story – it is crucial that my clients feel understood by me.  B) When capturing footage, I hunt for beauty within each image – no matter how grand or commonplace the setting might be, and C) I choose music that is relevant to my client’s message and audience.

Music was deeply engrained in my soul as a child.  Trained in classical and jazz piano, I was raised listening to my parents old classical and folk albums, and joined in on many a hymn in our living room. The majority of my upbringing was in Nashville where I was surrounded by many amazing songwriters and musicians.  Picking up various instruments and songwriting came natural for me as I dove into the world of audio recording with my Tascam cassette Four-Track.  Since then I received an exhaustive masters from MTSU in Recording Arts and Technologies for both audio and visual production and have opened both a recording studio for music and a production house for film/video.  I have a deep appreciation for different genres of music and film and, while I definitely have my own production style, I am most concerned that the artist/client feels his or her voice is being heard.

Welcome To The Johngle

The debut record was my thesis project for my MFA in Recording Arts and Technologies.  I must say that it would not have been possible without the help of Leonardo Bella, Matt Slocum, Will Sayles, Brian Layson, Sam Ashworth, Matt Lehman and the love and support of my family.  One can imagine the difficulty in johngling the roles of writer / producer / multi-instrumentalist / artist and engineer all on the same project, however, getting to collaborate with my close friends and family on this project has been a most enjoyable experience.  Anything can happen in the Johngle.  These songs attempt to communicate some significant life lessons that I have learned over the last few years or so.

Matt Wertz Music Video

So I was given the opportunity by my buddy Matt to produce his latest music video for the song, I Just Realized.  Our goal was to capture that precise ,but often under the radar moment, when you realize you have feelings beyond friendship for someone. Matt was able to snag Jana Kramer an actress I know as Smash’s girlfriend because both my wife and I are mega Friday Night Lights fans… but I digress.  Jana, currently on One Tree Hill, was really easy to work with and we were able to grab some great footage on Super 8 film of both her and Matt.  Not to mention, a monsoon hit middle Tennessee the day we were to film right up to the hour, and then the clouds parted for us as if to say, “Yes, John, we want you to get glorious golden-hour footage amidst the rolling hills of Lieper’s fork.”  I have to give a shout out to Lauren Weiner, my fearless stylist/assistant, and to my wife, Katie Moessner, for craft services who cooked up a mean jambalaya and brownies.  I am excited for its release so be on the lookout for the new music video, I Just Realized.
